City announces Lead Poisoning Awareness Week activities

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Healthy Homes Program recognizes the national Lead Poisoning Awareness Week of Oct. 23-29 with the following activities:

    •Education tables in the lobbies at City Hall, 414 E. 12th St., and at the Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave.

    •Free testing of products such as toys, dishes and jewelry by appointment at the Health Department

    •Free blood lead testing by appointment at the Health Department

    •A “mitten exhibit” to promote awareness about the number of Kansas City children affected by lead poisoning at the Health Department

    •Lead poisoning education class for refugees at the Jewish Vocational Services, 1608 Baltimore Ave., on Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

    •Lead poisoning awareness presentation to the Lions Club at the Kansas City Public Library – Waldo Branch, 201 E. 75th St., on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 5:30 p.m.

    •Free blood lead screening and information at the Vietnamese American Health Fair at Pioneer College, 2700 E. 18th St., on Saturday Oct. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    •Educational table at the KC Fun Fest event at Calvary Temple Baptist Church, 2940 Holmes Road, on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
