FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Oct. 21, 2005
Grand and Truman intersection closed for the weekend
Water systems work for the new downtown entertainment district requires that the intersection of Grand Avenue and Truman Road be closed to all traffic Saturday and Sunday.
On Monday, Oct. 24, and Tuesday, Oct. 25, the intersection will be able to accommodate through traffic with one northbound lane and one southbound lane open. The intersection is expected to be completely open Wednesday, Oct. 26.
The detour routes are as follows:
Northbound – Grand Avenue traffic, detour to eastbound Truman Road to Oak Street. Head north on Oak Street to 13th Street, and then west on 13th Street back to Grand Avenue.
Southbound – Grand Avenue traffic, detour west at 13th Street to Walnut Street. Head north on Walnut to 11th Street, west on 11th Street to Broadway Street, then south on Broadway Street to eastbound Truman Road. Detour east on eastbound Truman Road back to Grand Avenue.
For a map of street closures, visit the Capital Improvement Management Office’s Web page (www.kcmo.org/cimo).
As construction continues on the new downtown entertainment district and the Sprint Center, motorists should be aware that while many streets remain open, there are fewer traffic lanes available, and additional time and consideration should be given to downtown travel routes.
