Residents invited to provide input regarding Rock Island Corridor

The City of Kansas City, Mo., encourages residents to learn about and take part in the Rock Island Corridor Study, which is managed by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC), in partnership with five Missouri cities: Kansas City, Raytown, Lee’s Summit, Greenwood and Pleasant Hill.

The study is focusing on future transit-oriented development opportunities at key locations along the Rock Island Corridor, which is one of six corridors in the Creating Sustainable Places Initiative supported by MARC. The Rock Island Corridor Study will focus on five activity centers -- 350 Highway/Noland Road, Downtown Raytown, View High area around I-470, Downtown Greenwood and Downtown Pleasant Hill -- and will result in conceptual land use plans, market analyses and implementation strategies for each activity center.

MARC and the five cities hope to engage residents and other important stakeholders in developing these plans to help advance sustainable development supported by trail and transit investments.

To kick off the project to the general public, the following coordinated planning workshops have been planned:

Tuesday, Oct. 23, 5:30-8 p.m.

Focus of the meeting: Greenwood and Pleasant Hill activity centers

At the workshops, attendees will be actively involved in sharing ideas to shape a vision for the future of these areas.

Residents may also provide input regarding the Rock Island Corridor online by visiting and clicking on the “Rock Island Corridor” forum.
