City attorney recertified as Local Government Fellow
City of Kansas, Mo., City Attorney Bill Geary received recertification as a Local Government Fellow from the International Municipal Lawyers Association. Only 80 attorneys in the U.S. and Canada have received this prestigious fellowship since its inception in 1999, when it was created to recognize attorneys as legal specialists in the field of local government law and to encourage proficiency and competency in the local government legal field.
“This latest recognition for Mr. Geary is a strong reminder that his knowledge and skills are a tremendous asset to this City,” said City Manager Troy Schulte. “While we have always known this, it is always wonderful to see folks from outside the City affirm it as well.”
Geary joined the City's Law Department in 1979 after nearly four years of active duty in the Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps.
With more than 30 years of municipal law experience, Geary has legal experience and knowledge on a wide range of municipal operations and activities. He holds Juris Doctor and LL.M degrees from the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Central Missouri State University.
Geary was first certified as a Local Government Fellow in 2001.
