Downtown water repairs progress on schedule

Temporary outage set for tonight at midnight

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department will perform a water valve test late Tuesday, Oct. 18 in the area of 5th to 7th streets from Broadway to May streets in preparation for replacement of two water valves.

Residents and businesses in the test area will be without water service on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at midnight to Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6 a.m. Notices have been left for the consumers advising them of the temporary loss of service.

This test is phase three of a Water Services Department four-phase water valve replacement effort in the Quality Hill neighborhood. Approximately 15 valves in the area of 5th to 10th streets and from Wyandotte to Washington streets were determined to need replacement. Seven valves were replaced in phases one and two.

“The work is being done in phases to minimize the time that consumers are out of water and minimize effects on traffic,” said Interim Water Services Director Terry Leeds. “We appreciate the consumers’ patience while the department makes these repairs.”

The City’s Water Services Department is currently requesting bids for a $1 million valve replacement contract to assist in upgrading the City’s water distribution system.
