EnergyWorks KC announces new financing initiatives to residents and businesses

City of Kansas City, Mo., Mayor Sly James and City Manager Troy Schulte will announce new financing initiatives for EnergyWorks KC, a program of the City’s Office of Environmental Quality, on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11:15 a.m. This public announcement will be held at 2007 Benton Blvd., the address of a resident who recently completed an energy analysis and is looking forward to making improvements, outlined in an EnergyWorks KC recommendation. Both the residence’s homeowner and energy analyst will be on hand to answer questions from the public and media.

“It is exciting to be able to announce financing initiatives that will allow individuals to move past being aware of a problem and toward implementing a solution,” said Mayor Sly James. “Energy represents a significant cost for many, and helping reduce energy usage will free resources for use elsewhere in our community.”

EnergyWorks KC provides individualized energy efficiency and workforce development resources to residents and businesses of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Since the program launched a year ago, it has completed more than 1,000 energy analyses and more than 500 residential energy efficiency improvements. EnergyWorks KC has no income restrictions, and existing commercial, industrial, institutional and residential (single and multi-family) buildings are eligible to participate.

EnergyWorks KC offers financing incentives including:

an incentive for consumers in the form of rebates that complement the rebates available from KCP&L and Missouri Gas Energy

an incentive for lenders that reduces their lending risk

an incentive for borrowers that reduces the interest rate of a loan for energy efficiency improvements

an incentive for borrowers that offers loans for energy efficiency improvements at very low interest rates

EnergyWorks KC is working with local non-profits the Metropolitan Energy Center and Mid-America Regional Council and in concert with local utilities Missouri Gas Energy and KCP&L to reduce energy waste, improve comfort and enhance home/business health. EnergyWorks KC is one of the nation’s BetterBuildings Neighborhood Programs, which is a national effort supported by the U.S. Department of Energy working to transform the marketplace for energy efficiency upgrades in existing homes and businesses.
