North America Works conference set for Nov. 5-7

Trade and logistics leaders gather to address an efficient, secure economic system

The City of Kansas City, Mo., International Affairs and Trade Office, a division of the City Manager’s Office, and North America’s SuperCorridor Coalition, will present the North America Works conference Nov. 5-7. The fourth annual conference will be at The Westin Crown Center Hotel, 1 E. Pershing Road.

This year’s conference will focus on the economic system — trade, transportation, jobs and global initiatives that affect companies’ bottom line.

More than 20 presenters, including distinguished keynote speakers and panel members from Canada, the United States and Mexico, will address North American trade and transportation issues, as well as with economic security in times of market volatility. Among the highlights will be presentations on “Greening the Mid-Continent Corridor,” “An Agenda for the new U.S. Administration,” “Global Strategies—Asia and Beyond,” “Entrepreneurial Developments along the Mid-Continent Corridor” and “Building an Efficient and Secure North American Transportation System.”

Speakers include Brian Crowley, founding president of AIMS, the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies, Atlantic Canada's public policy think tank, Robert Litan, vice president of Research and Policy at the Kauffman Foundation, Michael Haverty, chief executive officer of Kansas City Southern, Pat Quinn, co-chairman of US Express Enterprises and other leaders and experts in business, trade and transportation.

“In our current economic situation and with uncertainty surrounding our major financial industries and institutions, we could not have more appropriate keynote speakers,” City Manager Wayne A. Cauthen said. “Experts on banking and related financial and regulatory issues will provide great insight for those involved in trade and commerce.”

The conference annually draws more than 200 industry leaders to the city from North America. Major sponsors include Quebec, Canada and the Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund.
