City projects continue to garner awards
The City of Kansas City, Mo., City Planning and Development Department has once again received recognition for its Vine Street District Economic Development Plan and its Heart of the City Area Plan. This time, the Missouri Chapter of the American Planning Association (MO-APA) honored the Vine Street District Economic Development Plan with its Special Community Initiative Plan and the Heart of the City Area Plan with an Honorable Mention for its Outstanding Plan Award.
“The recognition these plans have received is confirmation of the hard work put in by City Planning staff, community members and area stakeholders,” said Third District Councilman Jermaine Reed. “These plans serve as a great foundation for the continued restoration and revitalization of the Third District. “
The Vine Street District Economic Development Plan outlines strategies, recommendations and action steps required to create a multi-faceted revitalization of the Vine Street District. Earlier this year, the plan was recognized by the American Society of Landscape Architects-Central States Event with the Award of Excellence, its highest level of recognition. Also this past year, the American Society of Landscape Architects - Prairie Gateway Chapter presented the Vine Street District Economic Development Plan with its Merit Award.
The Heart of The City Area Plan carefully blends community input and values with extensive technical analysis and research to create a set of guidelines, policies and action steps to achieve the plan’s goals. The Heart of The City Area Plan was also recognized by winning the 2011 Planning and Analysis Merit Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects - Prairie Gateway Chapter.
