City selects Downtown Arena Design Team to design new arena
The City of Kansas City, Mo., today announced that it has selected the Downtown Arena Design Team to design the new downtown arena approved by voters on Aug. 3.
Led by HOK Sport+Venue+Event, Ellerbe Becket, 360 Architects and Rafael Architects, all based in Kansas City, the team has designed 24 of the last 28 major multipurpose arenas across the country and 114 arenas throughout the world, and have helped to make Kansas City known throughout the world as the epicenter of sports architecture.
The Downtown Arena Design Team is primarily local, with 87 percent of the work outlined in their proposal being performed in the metropolitan Kansas City area. The team has produced many contextual designs in other cities that are destination attractions and have led to redevelopment.
