Public meetings kickoff 2010 one-year action plan process
The City of Kansas City, Mo., will begin its 2010 Consolidated One Year Action Plan Request for Proposals by holding public meetings on Oct. 1, 6, 8, 15 and 22. The hearings are sponsored by the City’s Housing and Community Development, Neighborhood and Community Services and Health departments.
In order to receive annual funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the City is required to prepare and submit a consolidated plan every 5 years that is used as a blueprint for identifying community priorities for funding to address priority housing, community development, economic development and public service needs. The City’s Consolidated Plan was submitted and approved in 2007.
Each year within that 5-year period, the City also prepares a One-year Action Plan detailing how the grant funds anticipated to be received from the federal government for the coming year will be used. The City receives four grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on an annual basis—Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnership Grant, Emergency Shelter Grant and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Grant.
At the hearings, City staff will discuss grant-eligible activities and give information on how organizations can submit a request for funding. The five public meetings are:
- Oct. 1, 6 p.m., Hillcrest Community Center, 10401 Hillcrest Road
- Oct. 6, 6 p.m., Robert J. Mohart Center, 3200 Wayne Ave.
- Oct. 8, 10 a.m., City Hall, 414 E. 12th St., sixth floor
- Oct. 15, 6 p.m., Line Creek Community Center, 5940 N.W. Waukomis Drive
- Oct. 22, 6 p.m., Brush Creek Community Center, 3801 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd.
The 2010 Citizen Participation Plan and RFP Guide will be available at the public meetings or by contacting the Housing and Community Development Department at (816) 513-3036. The Guide is also available at http://www.kcmo.org/housing. Proposals must be submitted to the Housing and Community Development Department no later than noon on Nov. 13, 2009.
