FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 28, 2004
Fire Station No. 19 second design-build project
Today, the Capital Improvements Management Office issued a request for qualifications for a new Fire Department facility to be located at 43rd Street and Bridger Road. This project, a new building for Fire Station No. 19, is the second project to use the design-build method. This new fire facility will replace the existing Fire Station No. 19 currently at 4012 Washington.
The request for qualifications provides an invitation for bid and contract. Firms interested in bidding on Fire Station No. 19 must first submit a statement of qualifications to the City to pre-qualify for the project by 4 p.m. on Oct. 19. A mandatory pre-statement of qualifications submission conference will be Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. Submitted statements will be evaluated and scored by a City selection committee based on the criteria included in the request for qualifications. After the evaluation process, the City will invite the highest scoring applicants to bid the project.
Invited bidders will be asked to submit two packages: a technical submission providing detailed information relating to how the applicant intends to complete the project, including relevant design information; and a cost submission, including design and construction costs. Each submission will be individually scored, and the firm with the combined best score will be recommended to complete the project. These two packages will have a later submittal date. The City will award a stipend to each invited bidder that submits a responsive technical and cost submission.
Requests for qualifications for the six other authorized design-build projects will be issued in a staggered approach. When implemented, the design-build process is expected to reduce the amount of time it takes to complete projects, as well as result in significant costs savings due to a comprehensive approach to project execution.
The request for qualifications for Fire Station No. 19 can be found on the City’s online bid page at www.kcmo.org. Registered users can also find the bid at the World Planroom Web site (www.worldplanroom.com).
On Sept. 17, the City announced the three teams selected to bid Fire Station No. 14, the first design-build project. The firm selected based on the final proposals submitted for Fire Station No. 14 will be announced Nov. 8.
