FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 28, 2004
Mohart Center dedication Oct. 1
The Neighborhood and Community Services Department will officially dedicate the Robert J. Mohart Multipurpose FOCUS Center Oct. 1. The dedication ceremony will be at 9 a.m. at the center, 3200 Wayne.
The featured guests will include Rev. Emanuel Cleaver II; Councilman Troy Nash, 3rd District-at-Large; and Councilwoman Deb Hermann, 1st District-at-Large. The event also will include a video tribute featuring Kansas City community leaders commenting on Mohart’s contributions to the community.
The center was formerly called the Linwood Multipurpose FOCUS Center. In November of 2003, the center was renamed to honor former Neighborhood and Community Services Department Director Robert J. Mohart, who died in May of 2002.
Mohart began his career with the City in the early 1970s and came up through the ranks to become a director of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department in 1994. He had a reputation for being a strong advocate for neighborhood groups and for being a highly dedicated employee in his 31-year career with the City.
