City will hold mandatory pre-bid conference for East Patrol Campus demolition and abatement on Sept. 28

The City of Kansas City, Mo., has issued an invitation to bid for the demolition and abatement of seven properties located in the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department’s East Patrol Division Station and Crime Lab Campus project area.

The City has also scheduled a mandatory pre-bid conference on Friday, Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. Following the pre-bid conference, the City will host a Section 3 contractor networking session. Both the pre-bid conference and the Section 3 networking session will be held at the Gem Theater at 1601 E. 18th St., Kansas City, MO 64108.

The networking event will provide subcontractors and Section 3 Certified Business Concerns with an opportunity to become acquainted with the prime contractors who will bid the project, with the goal of facilitating the development of joint-venture-oriented partnerships.Copies of attendance lists for the pre-bid conference and networking session will be posted at following the meetings.

Because the project is a designatedHUD Section 3 project, which includes federal funds, there will be increased contract opportunities for Section 3 Certified Business Concerns located inand aroundthe project area. Businesses interested in being Section 3 certified can visit the City’s Section 3 office in the Historic Lincoln Building at 1601 E. 18th St., Kansas City, MO 64108.

“The City is firmly committed to not only meeting, but exceeding, the Section 3 goals on this project,” said Eric Bosch, city architect. “This project is committed to at least 10 percent Section 3 goals on the construction phase of the project.”

The $57 million East Campus project is located in the City’s Third District with the following boundaries: Prospect Avenue on the east; Brooklyn Avenue on the west; 26th Street on the north; and 27th Street on the south. The project components include the East Patrol Division Station, a state-of-the-art crime lab, a multi-purpose center and an evidence and property depository.

Bidding documents are available online to all interested parties on the Kansas City, Mo., Plan Room,, and bids will be received by the City until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012.
