Assistance available from Emergency Shelter Grant program
Kansas City, Mo., residents or families who have experienced a sudden loss of income through reduction in work hours or layoff and are currently looking for work, may be eligible for assistance with utility and living expenses through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Emergency Shelter Grant Program.
The program is operated by the City of Kansas City, Mo., Neighborhood and Community Services Department and will provide assistance to those at imminent risk of become homeless with utility, mortgage and/or rental assistance. Applicants must have a reasonable future ability to remain current if assisted.
Applicants must also be able to prove Kansas City, Mo., residency, and have one or more of the following:
- A disconnect notice from a utility company
- A court ordered eviction
- Notice of intent to foreclosure
The program will operate until fund are exhausted, and is a first come first served basis.
