Work begins on stormwater improvement project
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department announces that the contract has been awarded for Phase I of the Gardner Avenue and Chouteau Trafficway Stormwater Improvement Project.
The $1,242,600 contract with Foley Company will improve the stormwater collection and conveyance system and reduce current flooding conditions during moderate storm events. The project is on Gardner Avenue just east of the Chouteau-Gardner intersection. Traffic may be reduced to one-lane at various times during the project.
Phase I consists of construction of a storm drainage system consisting of area inlets, enclosed storm sewers, a detention basin, a vegetated open channel, and utility relocations. Construction will also include an asphalt roadway overlay that will help maximize runoff captured, thereby helping maintain open lanes during high water events. Actual construction is scheduled to begin in late October and should be completed in May of 2010.
