KC Green Fair to demonstrate local green initiatives
Residents encouraged to attend fair on Sept. 22 at Ilus Davis Park
The City of Kansas City, Mo., invites residents to attend its KC Green Fair on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ilus Davis Park, across the street from City Hall, 414 E. 12th St. The fair will highlight the innovative and sustainable initiatives of City departments and several City partners.
“This year’s fair is all about sustainability at work, at home and in our community,” said Andy Savastino, the City’s environmental compliance manager.“Participants at the fair will be amazed, and hopefully inspired, by the wide variety of projects, programs and initiatives going on in the Kansas City area.”
Residents who attend can visit booths set up with live demonstrations of green initiatives. In addition, exhibitors will provide green giveways and prizes, including reusable lunch bags, travel tumblers and weatherization kits. Attendees can visit the KC Green table to receive a free green bag and obtain a “Ticket to Sustainability”. The first 1,000 people who get their ticket stamped by 10 exhibitors and submitted to the KC Green table will receive a green gift and be eligible for additional prizes.
Residents attending can also take a tour of JE Dunn’s LEED Gold Certified Building at 12:15 p.m. to learn about energy efficiency and other sustainable practices used in the buliding’s construction. At 12:30 p.m., residents can attend a tour of the Wolf Parking Garage to learn how the City is using renewable energy sources to power the garage.
A composting clinic scheduled for 12:50 p.m. will show residents not only how to compost at home, but also why composting is important for the environment.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Eco Elvis.
Food from the Farmer’s Market, CoffeeCakeKC, El Pueblito, Magical Meatball Tour, Mad Jacks on Troost, and Smokin Aces BBQ will be available at the fair for purchase.
In addition to departments of the City of Kansas City, Mo., fair exhibitors include: Bridging the Gap, Downtown Community Improvement District, EnergyWorks KC, Environmental Protection Agency, Green Impact Zone, Habitat ReStore KC, Jackson County, JE Dunn, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, Kansas City Industrial Council, Kansas City Power & Light, Metropolitan Energy Center, Mid America Regional Council, Missouri Gas Energy/Clean Energy, Ripple Glass, Tall Oak Productions/Green Spirit Band, UMB Bank and U.S. Health & Human Services.
