Emergency Operations Center resumes normal business hours
The City’s Emergency Operations Center is standing down from Level 1 to normal business hours in response to its activation to coordinate local efforts in response to Hurricane Katrina.
Ron Reynolds, the director of the State Emergency Management Agency, notified the City today that evacuation flights from the hurricane area have been suspended. On this basis, D.A. Christian, director of Emergency Management for the City, decided to discontinue the Level 1 activation of the Emergency Operations Center. The center will remain active during normal business hours and beyond, if needed.
"The American Red Cross reception center at the Gregg-Klice Community Center will remain open to meet the needs of those who have made it to Kansas City on their own, but no large groups of evacuees are expected unless conditions change," Christian said.
