FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 10, 2007
City Hall’s 12th street sidewalks to close, parking restricted
The sidewalks on the north side of 12th Street between Oak and McGee streets (on the south side City Hall) will be closed for four weeks, and parking along the same street will be blocked beginning Sept. 12 due to a major streetscape improvement project.
Employees and visitors to City Hall are advised to use the south entrance via the ramps on the east side of the building from Locust Street, or the recently reopened north entrance.
The sidewalks are expected to be closed and parking restricted for four weeks, weather permitting, while the streetscape improvements continue on 12th Street from Wyandotte to Locust streets. Improvements will include landscaping, curb and sidewalk replacement and the addition of streetlights and pedestrian lights. This project is designed to enhance the pedestrian environment and promote use of the bus transit system implemented by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority.
The improved 12th Street corridor also will connect the existing convention facility district with the Power and Light Entertainment District.
