FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 9, 2004
Correction to calls for service figures in audit report
The City Auditor corrected Exhibit 6 of the “Follow-Up Audit: Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department Patrol Deployment: Blackout Analysis” report released Sept. 1.
Exhibit 6 compared the average number of calls for service by division for 1998 and 2003. The exhibit incorrectly showed increased calls for service in each division. The corrected data show decreases in four divisions and an increase in one division.
The average number of daily calls for service by division are as follows:
Central – 212.2 in 1998, 200 in 2003, -5.7 percent change
Metro – 243.4 in 1998, 162 in 2003, -33.4 percent change
East – 227.3 in 1998, 195.5 in 2003, -14 percent change
North – 89.1 in 1998, 96.8 in 2003, 8.6 percent change
South – 107.9 in 1998, 84.3 in 2003, -21.9 percent change.
The error does not affect the findings or recommendations in the report because it does not affect calculations of blackout – periods when all patrol officers assigned to respond to calls for service in a division are busy and cannot respond to an additional call.
The City Auditor will reprint the report with the corrected data and will update the report on the City Auditor’s Web page (www.kcmo.org/auditor) by Sept. 13.
