Future streetcar route gets advance restriping
Traffic flow experiment will affect three Main Street blocks
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department announced that Main Street will be restriped between 9th and 12th streets the weekend of Sept. 7, weather permitting. This restriping is an advance test of how traffic will flow after the streetcar is implemented.
The City was approached by downtown stakeholders about the possibility of restriping Main Street. Although the restriping will not completely represent post-construction streetcar conditions, it will allow the City and stakeholders to observe future traffic challenges and needs in the area such as new signage and changes to bus routes.
The restriping will require lane closures of Main Street over the weekend. Local traffic will be allowed.
