Premium Auto Auction returns to City tow lot

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Tow Services Division will return its Premium Auto Auctions to the City tow lot starting Oct. 14. The City started a pilot program in July with Sapulpa Auto Pool Inc. to provide an online bidding option for the City's Premium Auto Auctions.

"As a result of requests from the public, we are returning to our former practice of conducting the Premium Auto Auctions at the City's tow lot," said Lesly Forsberg, manager of the Tow Services Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department. "This change is not a reflection of the service we received from Sapulpa Auto Pool. We found out during this pilot program that many people participating in these auctions are local and want to have the opportunity to bid in-person."

The auctions will be held quarterly. The next Premium Auto Auction is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 3901 Bennington Ave. Registration is from 8-11 a.m. and the auction will start at 10 a.m. The list of vehicles to be auctioned can be viewed online at http://www.kcmo.org/neigh/tow/premiumcars.pdf one week before the auction, but all bids must be made in-person. No one under 18 is allowed on the lot for participation in the auction and a state-issued identification card is required to be issued a bidder number. Buyers must pay for their vehicles by the close of business on the day of the auction.

The goal of the City's Premium Auto Auctions is to provide opportunities for buyers to purchase vehicles at prices below retail. There is no reserve on these vehicles and they are sold to the highest bidder. Many of the vehicles were obtained through police actions and seizures.

For more information about the Premium Auto Auctions, call Lesly Forsberg, manager of the Tow Services Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department, (816) 784-4092.

Media inquiries should be directed to Teresa L. Clark, public information officer for the Neighborhood and Community Services Department, (816) 513-3247
