Main Street Bridge closes Sept. 13 through mid-November
Crews will make improvements on accelerated schedule
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department announces the Main Street Bridge over Interstate 670 will close for a brief period beginning Sept. 13 so that improvements can be made. During construction, traffic will be detoured to Oak and Baltimore streets.
The $2.75 million project will replace the Main Street Bridge with a three-lane concrete bridge that improves vertical clearance and addresses ongoing traffic needs in the area. In addition, crews will widen bridge sidewalks, improve crosswalks and ramps on Truman Road and install updated bridge lighting and decorative fencing.
Accelerated construction is scheduled to minimize closure of the bridge to 50 days. A reopening date is expected in early to mid-November.
Construction also will require single-lane closures of Interstate 670 to allow repairs to the retaining wall and construction of the bridge support columns.
