City seeks youth to be voice in Kansas City government

The City of Kansas City, Mo., is looking for some young people to shake up City Hall. The City is establishing the Kansas City Youth Commission to give young people ages 12-21 the opportunity to be the official youth voice in the City’s decision-making process.

Kansas City Youth Commission members will be chosen through a competitive selection process. They will actively participate in City government to ensure that young people have a role and a voice in policy and budget decisions that impact their lives. Members will represent and advocate for the needs and desires of Kansas City's youth and encourage involvement of their peers in the political arena of Kansas City.

The deadline to apply for the Kansas City Youth Commission is 5 p.m., Sept. 16. To apply online, visit the City’s Web site (www.kcmo.org). The mailing address is: Youth Advocacy Office, 414 E. 12th St., 22nd floor, Kansas City, MO, 64106.

For more information, contact Thalia Cherry, youth advocate in the City Manager’s Office, (816) 513-1378 or via e-mail at youthcom@kcmo.org.
