Residents advised about wastewater overflow into creek that leads to the Blue River

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department Wastewater Maintenance crews responded to a water in the basement call at 3805 E. 68th Terr. and found sewage surfacing from the ground in the utility easement at the rear of this address at 5:30 pm, August 22nd. The sewage was flowing over a retaining wall onto Cleveland Ave. at an estimated rate of 10 gpm into a stormwater catch basin. The storm pipe exits into an unnamed creek which leads to the Blue River. The City’s drinking water supply is not affected by this overflow.

The sewage was contained at 10 pm Sunday evening. Crews will repair the line on August 23rd.

The City has posted the affected area to inform residents of the discharge and is working cooperatively with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to mitigate the impact of this discharge. Water samples are being collected from the affected area.
