City suspends liquor license of Barcelona Banquet Hall

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Regulated Industries Division and the management of Barcelona Banquet Hall have agreed to an eight-day suspension of the establishment's liquor license. Barcelona Banquet Hall is at 3053 Southwest Blvd.

This suspension is the result of violations of City ordinances that occurred Aug. 9. The suspension started Aug. 14 at 6 a.m. and will end Aug. 22 at 3 a.m. As a condition of the suspension, the management will provide education, training and instruction to employees about City ordinances. The Regulated Industries Division cited Barcelona Banquet Hall with violations of these sections of the City ordinance:

• Section 10-342 – No sales-by-drink licensee, nor employee of the licensee, shall permit a person under 21 years of age to enter or remain upon the licensed premises.

• Section 10-371 – It shall be unlawful for any person under 21 years of age to purchasealcoholic beverages. No person under 21 years of age shall have either in his possessionor on his person any alcoholic beverages, except for medical purposes only, administeredby a duly licensed physician as provided under Chapter 311 RSMo. No person under 21 years of age shall operate, ride or sit in any vehicle that contains any alcoholic beveragesexcept when the minor is accompanied by a parent or lawful guardian.

"Both the Missouri State Liquor Control and the Kansas City Police Department played an active role in this investigation of underage drinking. Not only are businesses subject to suspension or revocation of their liquor license, but minors can also be arrested and charged for entering a tavern and attempting to purchase alcohol," said Gary Majors, manager of the Regulated Industries Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department.

In June, Barcelona Banquet Hall served a two-day suspension for violation of Sections 10-34 – inspection of licensed premises; impoundment of unlawful articles, 10-342 – sales-by-drink premises; minor, and 10-36(a)(1) – a licensee or permittee under this chapter has not at all times maintained an orderly place.

Media inquiries about this issue should be directed to Teresa L. Clark, public information officer for the Neighborhood and Community Services Department, (816) 513-3247.
