Saturday immunization clinics Aug. 20 and 27

The “BEE WISE, BEE EARLY, IMMUNIZE ON TIME” back to school immunization clinics will be from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Aug. 20 and 27 at the Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave.

The clinics will be open only to Missouri residents. In addition to free immunizations, the following attractions are scheduled:

The Police Department’s showcase car (Aug. 20 only, arriving at approximately 11 a.m.), special roll-over demonstration vehicle which emphasizes the importance of wearing seatbelts (Aug. 20 only, from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.), and McGruff the Crime Dog also will visit the clinic Aug. 20

Representatives for MC+ will distribute information to encourage parents to enroll for medical care coverage for their children

A Parent as Teachers representative will be available to discuss the program

Each child who gets vaccinated will receive a book donated by the Kansas City Public Library, as long as supplies last

The HomeTown Buffet “BEE” mascot will pass out coupons for a free child’s meal when an adult purchases a meal, as long as supplies last

Frosty Treats will give the children treats from 10 a.m. until noon.

Immunization has been cited as one of the 10 greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. It is one of the easiest, cheapest and most effective ways to protect children from potentially serious diseases. People today live longer and are healthier because of the vaccines they receive when they are children. Help us keep our children safe and healthy: “BEE WISE, BEE EARLY, IMMUNIZE ON TIME.”

For more information about immunization, call the Health Department, (816) 513-6008.
