Northeast 108th Street from I-435 to Reinking Road to close
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is advising motorists that Northeast 108th Street between Interstate 435 and Reinking Road will close Monday, Aug. 15 as Phase 1 of the Northeast 108th Street roadway improvement project begins.
While Northeast 108th Street is closed, residents can use the recently constructed North Eastern Avenue to the newly opened Shoal Creek Parkway to access I-435, Kellybrook Elementary School and the neighboring residential subdivisions.
Phase 1 of this $4.2 million improvement project will include removing the one lane culvert and providing an improved two-lane arterial street section that will include a sidewalk, curb, gutter and streetlights. The vertical alignment will be upgraded to improve sight distance. Phase 2 will improve the street from Reinking Road to North Eastern Avenue near Kellybrook Elementary School and will be under construction during the summer of 2012.
The improvement is being paid for by bonds recently issued by the Shoal Creek Tax Increment Financing District. The Shoal Creek TIF District is using the tax revenue generated in the Route 152 and Flintlock commercial district to pay for off-site street improvements along Northeast 108th Street, North Eastern Avenue, Northeast 76th Street and Shoal Creek Parkway corridors.
“The explosive growth of the Northland requires infrastructure to grow along with our population,” said Councilman Scott Wagner, First District At-Large. “This much needed construction along Northeast 108th Street will build greater connectivity between the neighborhoods and schools in the area as well as prepare us for future growth along this important corridor.”
This work is being completed by the City’s Public Works Department and Hunt Midwest for the Shoal Creek Tax Increment Financing District.
The road is scheduled to reopen in early 2012.
