Ozone actions save resources, reduce further pollution
In response to the continuing Ozone Alert Days of the 2005 ozone season (August 1, 8, 9 and 10), 10 city departments reported a total of 4,228 actions taken to reduce ozone generating activities on these days.
In addition, alternative fuel vehicles in the City fleet logged more than 48,000 miles on these days, emitting significantly less air pollution than comparable gas or diesel vehicles.
Ozone levels in Kansas City have already exceeded federal standards on 13 days this year. This makes it especially important for individuals and organizations throughout the area to avoid ozone generating activities on Ozone Alert Days.
The following accomplishments were reported by City departments for August 1, 8, 9 and 10: (A breakout by department appears on the attached spreadsheet.)
