Residents advised about wastewater overflow into the Blue River Watershed

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department reports a wastewater overflow due to grease blockage in the sewer.

A manhole located at 7704 E. 51st St. overflowed into a storm drain that drains to an unnamed creek that leads to the Blue River on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at a rate of 5 gallons per minute. The bypass was discovered at 12:15 p.m.

The stoppage was opened at 2 p.m. before containment could be implemented. The bypass totaled 525 gallons. Bypass pumping was implemented to remove the sewage from the creek. Signs were posted.
