Events to celebrate Bright Future employment program
Picnic with activities at Parade Park followed by ceremony at Gem Theater
The Bright Future employment picnic and awards ceremony will recognize on July 31 the more than 900 young adults, ages 15-22, who participated in the 2008 Bright Future employment program, as well as the City of Kansas City Mo., officials and departments and the private companies that provided employment for the participants.
A picnic will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. at Parade Park, 1600 John “Buck” O’Neil Way and an awards ceremony will follow from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Gem Theater, 1601 E. 18th St.
The picnic includes free food, entertainment and a kickball tournament. The event at the Gem Theater includes free food and a live musical performance by a local choir.
The Bright Future employment program helps prepare young adults for the work force by fostering professional development through career development workshops and paid positions in the public and private sector.
Candidates must apply for the Bright Future program, which encourages high academic achievement, attendance rates, community service and community involvement.
Media inquiries about these issues should be addressed to Thalia Cherry, youth advocate in the City Manager's Office, (816) 513-1378.
