FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 20, 2010

KCI Airport Terminal B Roadwork Slated for Next Two Weekends

Work is underway on the Terminal B roadway system, medians, bus shelters and garage pedestrian tunnels at Kansas City International Airport. The $2.8 million project is nearing completion and the last key construction activities need to be accomplished.

Upcoming milling and paving will require the closure of traffic lanes and access to some areas of the terminal curb and commercial medians. To minimize inconvenience to customers, this work will be done in large sections during off-peak time over the next two weekends. At times traffic may be congested. KCI Airport users are urged to allow extra time and patience when using the airport during this time. Signs, Airport Police and other personnel will be on hand to aid and direct customers.

On Saturday, July 24 from noon to 6:00 p.m. the three commercial lanes closest to the garage will be closed in the first half of the terminal in front of Southwest Airlines. Limos and shuttle buses will be added to the regular mix of vehicles at the terminal curb, so there could be heavy congestion at the curb.

From 6:00 p.m. Saturday through 4:00 a.m. Sunday, July 25, contractors will close all three traffic lanes along the terminal curb in the second half of the terminal. There will be no direct curb access for Delta Air Lines customers. Customers may be picked up and dropped off upstream from the construction.

On Saturday, July 31 from noon to 6 p.m., the three commercial lanes closest to the garage will be closed in the second half of the terminal in front of Delta. Again, limos and shuttle buses will be added to the regular mix of vehicles at the terminal curb, so there could be heavy congestion at the curb.

From 6:00 p.m. Saturday, through 4:00 a.m. Sunday, August 1, contractors will close all three traffic lanes along the terminal curb in the first half of the terminal in front of Southwest. Customers may be picked up and dropped off downstream from the construction.

Related construction in Terminal A will occur in 2011 and work Terminal C will be conducted as needed.
