Shelter opens at 7:30 p.m. for July 11 storm victims
The City of Kansas City, Mo. and the Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross announce the opening of an emergency shelter for victims of the July 11 storm in Kansas City, Mo. The Hillcrest Community Center at 10401 Hillcrest Rd. has been designated as the emergency shelter. The American Red Cross will be operating the shelter which opens at 7:30 p.m.
The American Red Cross has indicated a number of residents are still seeking shelter from the storm’s aftermath. Some residents may be staying with relatives or neighbors in private residences, but we are opening the shelter due to the volume of calls for assistance we have received. In response, the City is prepared to accommodate those seeking shelter due to storm-related losses. We are requesting those needing shelter to begin making their way over to the shelter at this time.
“We appreciate the patience of our residents and the assistance other agencies like the Red Cross have offered us during this time of need,” said Troy Schulte, acting city manager.
Media inquiries about this issue should be directed to Stephan Bean, acting emergency manager, City Manager’s Office, 866-417-6400.
