Local committee recognized with national quality award

The National Quality Center has recognized the Kansas City TGA Quality Advisory Committee with its Award for Quality Management Infrastructure Development. The committee, which is housed at the City of Kansas City, Mo., Health Department, is made up of Ryan White Program care providers and HIV-infected clients and represents the bi-state 11-county transitional grant area, or TGA.

The award honors organizations that demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement. The National Quality Center has supported Ryan White programs for eight years with a focus on improving quality of care for people living with HIV.

The TGA Quality Advisory Committee developed and has tracked a range of performance measures since 2006. In 2010, the committee began updating the area’s Quality Management Plan and this year has fully adopted the federal core clinical performance measures. They plan to review the National HIV/AIDS Strategy goals and incorporate them into the 2013 Quality Management Plan.

“It is an honor to serve on a committee of people whose goal is to improve the quality of life for people living with HIV,” said Rose Farnan of Truman Medical Center and a committee member. “The committee’s work serves as a model for the collecting, sharing and utilization of data, which will in turn identify gaps in care, control health care costs and address the challenges of people living with HIV in this community.”
