FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 3, 2012

Boil advisory issued for I-70 south to 87th Street, Blue Ridge Cutoff east to city limits

A Boil Water Advisory is being issued by the City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 effective immediately. Water Services anticipates the boil advisory to last approximately 24 hours.

The affected area is south of I-70 to 87th Street, and Blue Ridge Cutoff east to the city limits.

Customers should boil all drinking water. Boil water vigorously for three minutes before using it to drink, cook or prepare food. Ice made with un-boiled water should not be used for drinking purposes. Disinfect dishes and food contact surfaces with tap water that contains one teaspoon of household bleach per gallon.

The water is safe for other purposes such as bathing, but small children should be discouraged from swallowing bath water. Water boiled for drinking and cooking purposes may also be used for brushing teeth.

This Boil Water Advisory is being issued as a precaution due to low water pressure as a result of electrical power issues at a pump station.

Water samples are being collected to confirm water quality .A media release will be issued when the boil advisory is lifted.

For more information about the boil advisory contact Water Services Dispatch Office at 816-513-0416.

For media inquiries, contact Colleen Doctorian, public information officer for the Water Services, at 816-513-0232.
