Residents advised about wastewater overflow into the Blue River, Dykes Branch Watershed

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Water Services Department reports two wastewater overflows.

A manhole in front of 1209 W. 79th St. was reported overflowing at 12:38 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at the rate of 30 gallons per minute (GPM). A debris stoppage (brick from manhole structure) was opened at 1:41 p.m.

The wastewater entered a storm drainage ditch to an unnamed creek. The overflow totaled 1,890 gallons. Lime was applied to the affected area. Signs were posted. A jet vac-truck was utilized to collect the wastewater around manhole structure. Water Services lab technicians collected samples.

An overflowing manhole located in front of 3637 Fremont Ave. was reported at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday, June 28flowing on to the ground at the rate of 15 GPM. The overflow was due to grease in the sewer line.

The overflow did not reach a body of water. The wastewater was absorbed into the ground. The overflow ended at 1:45 p.m. for a total of 1,305 gallons. Normal flow has returned to the collection system. Lime was applied to the affected area.
