Active Living Kansas City celebrates renewed funding
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Active Living Kansas City initiative has received a $180,000 Healthy Lifestyles grant from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City. This grant will be used to help continue funding Active Living Kansas City for the next year.
Active Living Kansas City encourages healthy lifestyles by putting regular physical activity back into daily routines and encouraging healthy eating. The initiative first launched in Oct. 2010 and is supported by the City of Kansas City, Mo.; the Hickman Mills School District; the Local Investment Commission (LINC); the Kansas City Police Department; and other neighborhood organizations.
Through this renewed funding, Active Living Kansas City will continue to provide multiple strategies that address healthy eating and physical activity in the Hickman Mills School District, including a walking school bus, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, nutrition and wellness policies.
The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City’s Healthy Lifestyle grant aims to increase opportunities for physical activity and improve access to affordable, healthy foods. Active Living Kansas City was one of 25 Healthy Lifestyle grants the Health Care Foundation awarded this year.
