Heart of America Stand Down Foundation Honors City Employees
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Municipal Court’s Presiding Judge Katherine Bromfield Emke was presented with a plaque of appreciation by Acting City Manager, Troy Schulte from the Heart of America Stand Down Foundation on June 23, 2010 at the meeting of the Court en Banc.
The mission of the foundation is to provide homeless veterans with access to short and long-term resources necessary to rebuild their lives. The Municipal Court participates by opening its doors once a year to veterans. The veterans are represented by volunteer attorneys from the community. The plaque honors City employees who volunteered on the project. The Stand Down Foundation’s award was given to Municipal Court staff for their contributions over the entire 17 years the program has been in existence. Approximately 20 court personnel and 20 attorneys assisted the more than one hundred veterans attending the June event this year.
The City Manager expressed gratitude for the excellent volunteer work the Municipal Court staff has shown. “The project these employees participated in is just one of many examples of City employees volunteering their talents and time to others,” said Acting City Manager Troy Schulte. “This is the kind of thing the makes me proud to be an official representing Kansas City.”
