City requests input for 63rd and Prospect cleanup options

The City of Kansas City, Mo., and the Tax Increment Financing Commission will host a meeting to receive public feedback and ideas regarding the 63rd & Prospect Redevelopment Project’s cleanup phase. The meeting will take place Wednesday, June 26 at 6 p.m. at Southeast Community Center, 4201 E. 63rd St.

The 63rd & Prospect Redevelopment Project’s general boundaries are 60th Street south to 63rd street, and Park Avenue east to Prospect Avenue. The site’s cleanup is intended to reduce potential risks to human health and the environment and help prepare the site for future redevelopment, as guided by a community-driven planning process.

During the meeting, the public may review the recently released “Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives,” which describes site conditions and cleanup options. City staff will be available to answer questions regarding the analysis and project. The analysis is also available at the Kansas City Library: Southeast Branch, 6242 Swope Parkway, and online at (open the folder marked “63rd & Prospect Redevelopment Project”).

After reviewing the analysis, residents may provide feedback regarding which cleanup option they believe is best for the site. Comments will be accepted any time between June 24 and July 23. Each comment will receive a response.

This cleanup will be funded by the City and a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Cleanup Grant.
