12th Street Bridge temporarily closes
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is alerting motorists that the 12th Street Bridge has been temporarily closed. The closure is expected to last several weeks. The closure will allow City crews to address a failing support beam.
During the closure, it is recommended that motorists use the following detour route:
-South on I-35 to 20th Street
-West on 20th Street to Summit Street
-South on Summit Street to Cesar E. Chavez Avenida (23rd Street Trafficway)
-West on Cesar E. Chavez Avenida to American Royal Drive
-American Royal Drive to Wyoming Street
-North on Wyoming Street back to 12th Street
-South on Genessee Street to American Royal Drive
-South on American Royal Drive to Cesar E. Chavez Avenida (23rd Street Trafficway)
-East on Cesar E. Chavez Avenida to Southwest Boulevard
-Northeast on Southwest Boulevard to Broadway Boulevard
-North on Broadway Boulevard back to 12th Street
The 12th Street Bridge is currently in the third and final phase of a construction project designed to refurbish the structure. Work on the upper deck, being managed by the City’s Capital Projects Office, is scheduled for completion in late 2010.
