City hosts household hazardous waste collection June 15
City of Kansas City, Mo., residents and other Missouri residents of participating communities* in the MARC Solid Waste District may safely and sustainably recycle household hazardous waste on Saturday, June 15 from 8 a.m. to noon at 220 N.W. Metro North Drive, behind Metro North Mall at the Old Theatre.
Household waste items include:
car and household batteries
oil (automotive oil, cooking and heating)
paints and paint-related chemicals (strippers, thinners, varnishes and spray paints)
Also during that same time period, for City of Kansas City, Mo., residents only, there will be an onsite dumpster for leaf and brush drop-off (use paper, not plastic bags), paper shredding services for confidential documents and a disposal site for tires, both with and without rims. Participants should bring proof of residency.
Media Services will collect unwanted paper in secure containers for off-site shredding. All types of paper will be accepted, including those with staples, paper clips, spiral notebooks and most office materials. Shredded materials will be recycled into various consumer paper goods.
This environmental cleanup day is sponsored by the City of Kansas City, Mo., Northland Neighborhoods, Inc., MD Management and Metro North Mall.
Residents also may drop off their household hazardous waste year-round at the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 4707 Deramus Ave. This facility is open Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are not required.
