FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 2, 2005

Prevailing wage training for contractors June 7

The Capital Improvements Management Office is providing prevailing wage training June 7 to all interested contractors and employees of construction organizations. The training will be from 12:30-5 p.m. at the Health Department, 2400 Troost Ave., in Biery Auditorium.

The training session was developed by the Contract Compliance Office staff to provide an overview of Missouri’s prevailing wage law and regulations, annual wage orders, reporting requirements, occupational titles, and common prevailing wage compliance problems.

This year, the Contract Compliance Office added five employees to improve the enforcement of prevailing wage standards on construction projects. The staff’s responsibilities include the enforcement of prevailing wage standards, investigation of complaints, audits of certified payrolls, and construction site inspections. If violations of the written contract between contractors and the City are found, the City aggressively pursues remedies which can include termination of a contract and criminal charges in the case of fraud.

The Contract Compliance Office is housed within the Capital Improvements Management Office in City Hall. CIMO currently manages more than 300 capital improvement projects, including public infrastructure improvements for the KC Live! Entertainment District, downtown arena, fire station facilities, and the police training academy in the Northland.

Due to limited space, organizations must confirm in advance the number of people who will attend this training by contacting Kathy Lam, Contract Compliance Office, via e-mail at Kathy_Lam@kcmo.org, or by calling her at (816) 513-1403. Additional trainings will be scheduled as needed.
