FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 25, 2007
Committee meeting location changes
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Safety and Neighborhoods Committee of the City Council will hold a meeting at the Communications Building at 1101 Locust St. on May 30 in an unprecedented move.
"This first meeting with the committee and the Police Department is the beginning of an effort to improve how the City responds to neighborhood improvement and revitalization," said Councilwoman Cathy Jolly, 6th District at large representative and chairwoman of the committee. "You cannot revitalize neighborhoods without addressing the public safety factor."
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. and Deputy Chief Cy Ritter will update the group on the Police Department's Comprehensive Strategic Team Accountability Review Program. The program is an information exchange initiative that analyzes and responds to the patrol divisions' crime, risk management and personnel issues.
The Public Safety and Neighborhoods Committee, which was formerly called the Neighborhood Development and Housing Committee, was renamed by Jolly in cooperation with Mayor Mark Funkhouser.
The committee usually meets Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in the Council Chamber in City Hall and airs live on KCCG-TV2. The May 30 meeting will not be shown live.
Media inquiries and other requests for more information about this issue should be directed to Dyanne Bean, assistant to Councilwoman Cathy Jolly, (816) 513-1368.
