Health and Safety Fair May 30
The Neighborhood and Community Services Department’s Social Services Division will sponsor its Health and Safety Fair May 30, from 3-6 p.m., at the Linwood Multi-Purpose FOCUS Center, 3200 Wayne Ave. The fair will be held in the gym and parking is available behind the center off of Thirty-third and Flora streets.
Exhibitors will include the American Heart Association, University Lincoln Extension, MC Plus for Seniors and Children, Senior Adult Victims Nurse, the City’s Health Department, Women’s Employment Network, American Diabetes Association, Kansas City Chronic Disease Coalition, Kansas City Center for Community Solutions, and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Bureau of Chronic Disease.
Information will be provided about strokes, obesity, proper nutritional habits and crime prevention. Blood pressure screenings and referrals will be available, also.
“We have a whole host of faith and neighborhood-based organizations poised to share their ideas and success stories on how other citizens can get involved and get healthy through grassroots, low-budget projects. This is expected to be a fun-filled, eye-opening afternoon,” said Jackie Powell, manager of the Social Services Division.
