City invites public input on future East Patrol site location
The City of Kansas City, Mo., has begun the process to identify the site where the new East Patrol Division/Crime Lab Police Campus will be constructed.
The site selection will be a collaborative effort under the leadership of the City Architect’s Office, City Manager's Office, Third District City Councilmembers and Mayor Sly James, along with the assistance of the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department in an advisory capacity.
Residents and neighborhood groups who would like to recommend a site for consideration are encouraged to complete an online suggestion form at the following link: http://www.saferkc.com/east.
“The City of Kansas City, Mo., and KCPD look forward to bringing the residents of the East Patrol Division a state of the art police facility and Regional Crime Lab that will serve the community for decades to come,” said Third District Councilwoman Melba Curls. “We appreciate residents sharing their thoughts and input for this much needed project.”
All suggestions will be evaluated based on the following factors:
Cost of the land and cost to construct the site
Size and shape of the site (it needs to be 12 to 15 acres)
Ease of vehicle and pedestrian public access to the site
Visibility of surrounding area for security purposes
Possible environmental hazards or contamination
Distance from railroad tracks and major highways (sufficient distance is needed to protect the Crime Lab from ground vibrations)
An opportunity to build in a blighted area, to serve as an anchor for neighborhood improvement.
Each suggested location will be evaluated as a possible site for the East Patrol/Crime Lab Police Campus. The City will accept input until June 4, 2011.
