Audit on Citywide use of sick leave released
The City Auditor’s Office released a report today on the Citywide use of sick leave. The audit concludes that City employee use of sick leave is high. In addition, department policies covering use of sick leave are inconsistent and treat employees in the same general classification differently. The audit also found, however, that the City’s overall policies on sick leave accrual and use is comparable to other governments.
The report includes recommendations to improve controls over sick leave including monitoring the use of leave Citywide, establishing a Citywide policy on time and attendance, and providing guidance to identify potential abuse of sick leave. Management agreed with the recommendations.
This report should be accessible from www.kcmo.org/auditor/03-04audits/sickleave.pdf by 3 p.m. today.
