City to hold informational forum April 10
City of Kansas City, Mo., residents can learn about how the City plans to address code violations involving tall weeds, trash and debris during the upcoming growing season at an informational forum on Saturday, April 10. The forum, hosted by the Neighborhood Services Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department, will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Southeast Community Center, 4201 E. 63rd St.
Mayor Mark Funkhouser will be among the forum presenters to speak on the importance of neighborhood preservation. “Keeping our neighborhoods clean and our properties well preserved leads to a better quality of life with safer neighborhoods,” Mayor Mark Funkhouser said. "I want to commend neighborhood leaders for their work in improving their communities, and for taking time out of their busy Saturday to talk about these important spruce-up, clean-up programs."
Staff from the Neighborhood Preservation Division will discuss how scheduled mowing operations will occur at City-owned properties, including City-owned vacant lots, lots owned by the Land Trust of Jackson County, and private properties in violation of City codes.
Mike Schumacher, assistant to the director of Neighborhood and Community Services, will discuss the volunteer inspection initiative and code enforcement efforts to address vacant and abandoned properties. Marleen Leonce, KC Recycles manager for the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department, will present information regarding the Neighborhood Clean-up Program and Dumpster rental procedures.
This informational forum is the first in a series of forums, to inform the community of various City services.
