City announces city communications director appointment
City of Kansas City, Mo., City Manager Troy Schulte is pleased to announce that, effective Tuesday, April 2, Danny Rotert will be appointed as the city communications director.
Rotert most recently served as the communications director to Mayor Sly James, where he has been employed since Mayor James took office in 2011. He previously served as the communications director to Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II and as a public affairs specialist for the Mid-America Regional Council.
Rotert was chosen for the position after the City held a national search that yielded a diverse field of qualified candidates.
“Danny brings extensive and diverse experience to this position, along with a clear, strategic communications vision,” Schulte said. “We are confident that he will lead and foster a new energy that will tell Kansas City’s great story in a positive way to both residents and the media.”
As the city communications director, Rotert will oversee all city communications and will report directly to the city manager. Rotert will advise city officials and managers in the development and maintenance of internal and external public information. He will direct staff in the areas of Web and intranet content development; media relations and community engagement; video production and government television services; copy development and editing; graphic design; social media; and communications support for city departments.
Rotert is a lifelong Kansas City resident and resides in the Columbus Park neighborhood.
