City's Revenue Division urges taxpayers to file earnings tax returns early
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Finance Department’s Revenue Division reminds wage earning residents that they have until Monday, April 15 to file their 2012 earnings tax returns and pay any tax due. This deadline also applies to the profit earnings tax for those businesses that are on a calendar year accounting cycle.
In addition, the City’s Revenue Division urges taxpayers to file their earnings tax returns as early as possible this year, if they haven’t already done so. The City is replacing its existing tax collection system with a modernized integrated revenue system. The implementation process is currently utilizing significant staff resources, which may result in slower processing of returns and delays in refunds for any returns filed this spring.
The first phase of the new revenue system will launch in June 2013 and support the essential functions of tax administration and compliance for the earnings tax, business license, utility taxes, convention and tourism taxes, and arena fees. A subsequent phase of the project will add property taxes and special assessments to the new system this time next year. The implementation process is currently utilizing significant staff resources which may result in slower processing of returns and delays in refunds for any returns filed this spring.
