Municipal garages at or near capacity due to Big 12
Public advised to keep valuables out of sight when parking
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Public Works Department is advising motorists that municipal garages near the Sprint Center and Municipal Auditorium are at or near capacity today due to attendance at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championships.
As motorists seek alternatives to the municipal garages, which charge $10 for event parking, the City is reminding the public of the importance of reading posted signs at commercial parking lots and making certain that the pricing and terms are understood before parking vehicles.
As with any event, motorists parking vehicles downtown during the championship events are advised that it is always prudent to keep valuables out of plain sight when leaving a parked vehicle. Items such as GPS, laptops, cell phones, audio devices, purses and sunglasses are a temptation for thieves seeking an easy opportunity.
The championships are estimated to have a $14.1 million impact on the local economy.
The Men’s Championships are being played in the Sprint Center and the Women’s Championships are being played at the Municipal Auditorium.

Media inquiries about parking for this event should be directed to Dennis Gagnon, public information officer for the Public Works Department, 816-513-2659.
