Engage KC Leadership Board sponsors Dream KC celebration
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Engage KC Leadership Board will host "Dream KC, a Martin Luther King, Jr. Call to Action Celebration" on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center. The board hopes the event will serve as a platform to inspire young professionals to get involved and connect with their communities.
Although the event is targeted to young professionals, the celebration is open to the public. A networking reception will take place at 5:30 p.m., and a program, featuring presentations by Judge Lisa Hardwick, community leaders and Engage KC board members, will commence at 8 p.m.
Young professionals will openly discuss the following areas: civic engagement, entertainment, board membership, housing, workforce development and strategies to identifying professional mentors.
"Though many are familiar with Dr. King's "Dream" of racial equality, his prophetic vision and actions addressed a range of issues that are relevant to the challenges we face today," said Councilwoman Sharon Sanders Brooks. "Dr. King made an enormous impact, which can inspire youth to carry forward his message today."
This event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 12 but was canceled due to inclement weather.
Media inquiries about this event should be directed to Thalia Cherry, the Office of Civic and Community Engagement, a division of the City Manager's Office, 816-377-1832.
